Art in the Classroom Volunteers

Art in the Classroom is a PTO sponsored program that offers a way for you to spend some quality time in your child’s classroom in an educational way. It is a monthly program designed to expose students to the world of art history. So, by the time your child has spent five years at Brayton, he/she will become familiar with as many as 40 famous artists and their works of art.

How does it work?

Parents who wish to volunteer sign up on the PTO website for the month they would like to present to their child’s class. When the assigned month approaches, the parent volunteer contacts the teacher to arrange a convenient time to come in and share the lesson. All of the materials are provided—including the lesson, the artwork, and materials for a brief class project that relates to the lesson. All it takes is 30-45 minutes to present the lesson from start to finish, and a little time to review the information on file.

Can anyone volunteer?

Yes! Whether you are an art history expert or a complete novice, Art in the Classroom is fun and easy for everyone. It’s also a great way to learn something new yourself, and share it with your child and his/her class. And because you choose the month to present and arrange a time that is convenient for you to present, it’s also a wonderful opportunity for working parents to get into the classroom for something special.
